Howard Gray was born in England at the beginning of the Second World War, a time that shaped the resilience and curiosity that would define his life. Growing up in post-war Britain, Howard developed a fascination with machinery, travel, and human stories — interests that would later weave their way into both his career and his writing.

In 1987, Howard married the love of his life, and together they embarked on a bold new adventure, emigrating to Canada in search of opportunity and a fresh start. They first settled in the Toronto area, where they spent ten rewarding years building a life in one of the country’s most vibrant regions, before moving east to the scenic landscapes of Nova Scotia, where they lived for another four years.
